If a dialogue (one sentence) is divided into 2 or more speech bubbles, use the ellipses at the end of the previous bubble and at the start of the next bubble instead of using a comma.
Hyphen
Use when a character is stuttering or cut off/interrupted
Ex) I-I DIDN’T DO IT!
HEY, THAT’S NOT-
Please do not use with onomatopoeias or sound effects outside of speech bubbles.
Question Mark
Can use up to three (???)
Exclamation Mark
Can use up to three (!!!)
Interrobang
Please use ?! for all interrobangs, including !?, regardless of original punctuation.
Ellipses
Always use 3 dots (…) only.
When a sentence ends with an ellipsis, no other punctuation is needed. (Except for ! or ? for effect)
Ex) BUT THAT’S… (O)
BUT THAT’S….(X)
When a sentence begins with an ellipsis, no space is needed.
Ex) …THAT’S WEIRD. (O)
… THAT’S WEIRD. (X)
When a new sentence begins after an ellipsis, space is needed.
Ex) WAIT… THAT’S WEIRD. (O)
WAIT…THAT’S WEIRD. (X)
Double Quotation Marks
Always use double, not single quotation marks.
All use of punctuation marks will follow the standard American English grammar.
Semicolon
Please do not use semicolons at the end of a sentence—do not substitute for commas, em dash, colons, and do not use as an emoji.
Emojis
Replace Korean-style emojis with more reader-friendly ones.
